Spring Term 2026: A Dynamic Start to the Year

The Spring Term at King William’s College was marked by typical energy, innovation and a strong sense of community, as pupils and staff alike embraced a wide range of academic, co-curricular and pastoral opportunities.

A key highlight was the introduction of the exciting blended A-Level pathway, expanding our Sixth Form provision alongside the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. This forward-thinking development reflects the College’s commitment to offering flexible, future-ready learning pathways, supported by global partnerships and enhanced subject choice.

Academically, the term began with successful mock examinations for Years 11 and 13. Our senior pupils have already secured an impressive number of UCAS offers from leading universities, underlining both their ambition and the strength of academic support they enjoy throughout their time at KWC.

Beyond the classroom, the co-curricular programme flourished. Pupils excelled in sport, with strong performances across football, netball, basketball and hockey. KWC athletes now benefit from our accreditation to deliver the TASS Dual Career Scheme, supporting high-performance sport alongside academic study.

The creative and performing arts, fittingly, took centre stage. Preparations for the school production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time were intense and resulted in an outstanding production. This was complemented by KWC pupils’ success in competitions such as the Young Singer of Mann. Meanwhile, events such as the Taste of Culture Evening celebrated the diversity of our international community, raising significant funds for charity and showcasing student talent.

A strong emphasis on personal development and wellbeing was evident throughout the first half of term. Pupils participated in Children’s Mental Health Week, engaging in activities designed to promote reflection, belonging and emotional resilience. Senior students also benefited from practical life-skills workshops, including self-protection and certified first aid training.

The College continued to strengthen its real-world engagement, welcoming external organisations such as Junior Achievement and Simcocks Advocates, providing pupils with valuable insights into careers and employability. Educational visits, including museum trips and STEM experiences with local industry, further enriched the curriculum.

Community spirit remained at the heart of school life. From the elegant Sixth Form Epiphany Dinner to charitable initiatives such as fundraising for Alder Hey Children’s Charity and international causes, pupils demonstrated generosity, leadership and a commitment to making a difference.

The second half of term also saw a vibrant mix of academic enrichment, co-curricular success, and community engagement.

Students continued to engage in a wide range of intellectually stimulating activities. Sixth Form students attended an inspiring lecture on Mars exploration, while Year 12 pupils demonstrated creativity and critical thinking through their Theory of Knowledge app design challenge. The College also hosted a highly successful Year 6 STEAM Day, offering hands-on experiences across science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. World Book Day and ongoing reading initiatives reinforced the school’s commitment to literacy as part of the National Year of Reading.

A standout highlight was the Year 12 and 13 cultural trip to Paris in half term, where students explored iconic landmarks, experienced French cuisine, and immersed themselves in the city’s culture. Closer to home, boarders enjoyed enriching weekend activities, including visits to cultural exhibitions and outdoor pursuits, while Year 8 pupils took part in a humanities field trip to Peel, deepening their understanding of local history.

The arts flourished throughout the second half of term, with events such as the Spring Concert, House Music Competition, and Live Lounge showcasing exceptional musical talent across all year groups. Students also excelled in drama, with notable success at the One Act Play Festival. The IB Visual Arts Exhibition and various musical accolades further highlighted the strength of creative disciplines at the College.

Sport remained a key strength, with impressive performances across netball, rugby, football, and hockey. Highlights included tournament successes, strong league performances, and a successful netball tour to London, where students trained with elite athletes. Individual achievements were equally noteworthy, with students excelling in athletics, martial arts, and national-level competitions.

Students achieved success in a variety of prestigious competitions, including the Cranmer Awards, public speaking events, and the Junior Achievement programme. The Share Race investment competition also demonstrated strong financial and entrepreneurial skills among Sixth Form students.

The College community showed strong support for charitable initiatives, raising funds for causes such as Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Events like the Mother’s Day Cupcake Workshop and themed boarding suppers fostered a strong sense of community and engagement among students and families.

The term concluded with a range of memorable events, including House competitions, the Senior Spring Fling Ball, and inter-house sports. These events highlighted the College’s strong sense of community, school spirit, and student participation.

Overall, the second half of the term reflected a dynamic and well-rounded school experience, with students excelling academically, creatively, and socially while actively contributing to the wider school community.

Looking ahead, ongoing campus developments and investment in facilities – including improvements to the Buchan site – reflect the College’s ambition to provide an outstanding environment for learning and growth.

We have planned a fantastic suite of events throughout April, May and June and we hope that our whole School community will be able to join in all the fun.
