Year 13 students at King William’s College are celebrating an impressive set of International Baccalaureate (IB) results.
With exams finishing in the third week of May, IB results are released on 6th July, giving leavers plenty of time to get organised before university undergraduate courses begin in autumn.
For KWC candidates who took the full Diploma Programme (DP), this year’s pass rate is 100% and the average points score is 34.2. This is the best pass rate since 2015 and the joint (with 2018) best average score since 2015.
34.2 points in IB is equivalent to getting AAB at A-Level. Candidates with this score have access to a huge range of prestigious destinations in the UK and around the world.
Over half of KWC DP candidates scored over the 35-point benchmark, placing them in a highly competitive bracket for entry to top-tier universities.
And of those, 4 students achieved 40+ points, a world-class performance akin to securing A*A*A*A* at A-Level.
As usual, both the KWC average points score, and pass rate are higher than the world average (30.88 and 82.61% respectively).
The IB has reported that this May, 209,607 candidates around the world took IB exams (3.7% higher than 2025), with 5,108 of them being in the UK (0.9% higher than 2025). The Diploma Programme is offered in over 3,900 IB World Schools across 159 countries.
Outside of the DP, 3 KWC students took IB Courses in four or five subjects, achieving an average subject result of 3.3 and an average of 15.3 points each – a very creditable set of results.
Over 90% of students making UCAS applications are straight into their firm or insurance choice of university, with others confirming their plans in the next few days as admissions officers process results. Popular choices on our adjacent isle include Durham, Edinburgh, Manchester and Nottingham, while desired European institutions this year are the University of Amsterdam and The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Further afield, one student is embarking on a Canadian adventure at The University of Toronto.
Commenting on the 2026 results, Principal Damian Henderson said:
“We are very proud of our leavers’ results which open the door to so many distinctive destinations for further study, service, and work. All our leavers have shown admirable commitment to the KWC ethos and leave us with an array of hard and soft skills that will equip them handsomely for success in their lives, wherever in the world they choose to make their way.”
He added: “The outstanding feature of our Sixth Form is in the amount of personalised attention we give our students. As always, this cohort fixtures a blend of young people: some have come up through the school since Pre-Prep, while others have been with us for a much shorter time, perhaps just for two years of Sixth form. All have been beautifully steered by the brilliant KWC teachers and dedicated support staff, who have worked closely with parents and guardians to guide them through the inspiring IB curriculum, whether leading to DP or Courses qualifications.”
The spotlight now moves to Year 11, with (I)GCSE results due on 20th August, and the School is looking forward to another impressive academic performance from its students.
Next summer, as well as IB results, KWC will be reporting A-Level results for its first cohort of ‘blended’ A-Level students who have just finished Year 12 on this exciting and distinctive programme in conjunction with King’s InterHigh.
