King William’s College Celebrates Outstanding (I)GCSE Results, with a Quarter of Grades at A*

King William’s College and The Buchan School is once again celebrating an outstanding set of (I)GCSE results, with a quarter of grades at A*.

Year 11 pupils achieved an overall pass rate (9-4 or A*-C) of 91%, with 25% of grades at 9/8 or A* and 43% at 9-7 or A*/A. This pass rate is in line with KWC’s historic average (since 2004) and for top grades, these are the best results in a decade (since 2016).

We are also delighted to recognise seven pupils who have been awarded Full Academic Colours this year. Congratulations to Hannah C, Amelie G, Alicia K, Zara L, Zoe V, Jens C, and Alexander O on this significant achievement.

Particularly striking is the breadth of success seen across the curriculum. Candidates have produced outstanding performances in several subjects, including Music, Physical Education, French, Spanish and Geography, all of which achieved exceptionally high proportions of top grades. Biology also delivered excellent outcomes, with almost two thirds of candidates achieving Grades 7-9. Photography produced excellent results from a smaller cohort, while English Language and English Literature maintained strong profiles with 100% of candidates achieving a Grade 4 or above.

These excellent (I)GCSE results follow on from the International Baccalaureate (IB) successes of Year 13 on 6th July, where candidates achieved a superb overall average of 34.5 points (from a maximum of 45), with five students scoring over 40 points – a world-class score. The range of university courses our leavers will be pursuing is distinctive, with all heading to their preferred destination and benefiting from the earlier results day to get ahead with their planning.

Principal Damian Henderson said:

“The whole community is so proud of Year 11. Well done to all and thank you to teachers and parents. (I)GCSEs are very demanding and for a non-selective school to have a quarter of its grades at A* or equivalent is excellent. It reflects the talent and commitments of our pupils, as well as the quality of teaching and pastoral guidance they have received throughout their time at The Buchan and KWC. This cohort has achieved highly outside the classroom too – in sport, music, drama, debating, outdoor education and so on. This augurs very well for their Sixth Form years, whether they are taking the IB DP, IB Courses, or our new blended A-Level programme.”
