Mr Steve Daykin, Head of Arts Faculty & Director of Music at King William’s College said the pupils performed with great confidence and provided all present with a thoroughly entertaining evening. Mr Daykin also writes about the end of Spring Term at College and how the music department is one of the most pivotal departments for students:
The final concert of the year is always something of a bittersweet occasion. It presents an opportunity for us to celebrate much of what many of our musicians have achieved, but it is also a moment to wish a fond and heartfelt farewell to those pupils who are moving on to new challenges. Many of these pupils have been part of KWC since their formative years and I consider it a privilege to have been able to share in their musical journey with them. They have come to know and appreciate the joy of performance and the sense of camaraderie found within an ensemble. I hope they will take with them a life-long love of music which will continue to enrich their lives and those of the people around them for many years to come. We wish them all well and look forward to hearing of their future musical endeavours.
Music is one of the most powerful forces in our lives. It has the ability to uplift, to comfort, to bring people together, and to express what words alone cannot. Not every child’s intrinsic strengths lie in academia, and one of the many joys of music is its ability to provide accessible opportunities for all to find a creative outlet, grow in confidence and become well-rounded individuals whilst learning a myriad of life-long transferable skills along the way.
As ever, I am indebted to our team of Visiting Music Teachers who continue to deliver first class tuition and play such a fundamental part in supporting our young musicians. Their dedication, professionalism and resolve serves to nurture and inspire our pupils and underpin all that the department is able to achieve.
My thanks to all who made the evening possible, not only those within the department, but all who play their part. Thanks also to each of you, for your continued encouragement which enables our pupils to flourish and continue to enjoy their music-making.
