At King William’s College and The Buchan School, we welcome enquiries from prospective students and their families of all ages and nationalities.
Please contact us to learn more about our school and for a discussion about your child’s educational requirements.
A step-by-step guide to our admissions process is detailed in our Admissions Guide.
To arrange a visit or to apply for a place, we will first require a completed Application Form and current school report.
Pupils looking to join King William’s College from outside of the United Kingdom should also include a handwritten personal statement. For Tier 4 Visa application guidance, please visit Isle of Man Immigration.
When you and your family visit our school, you will be taken on a tour and you will meet the Principal or Head and other academic staff, as appropriate. All prospective pupils are required to attend an interview with the Principal or Head. If a visit is not possible, we will arrange an online interview.
International students looking to start the International Baccalaureate Diploma will be required to take a short test in English and Maths. The formal offer of a place, if applicable, follows very shortly after interview.
Following your visit, prospective pupils can attend a taster day. These are mandatory at The Buchan School. Our taster days and overnight stays are a wonderful way for your child to experience life at our school on a normal working day. Your child will be teamed up with a ‘buddy’, who will escort them to lessons and introduce them to other students and our teachers. They can enjoy lunch, take part in some sport or join an academic club. Our taster days are bespoke and can be arranged around your child’s interests.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family to King William’s College!
Best Wishes,
Kara Clague | Head of External Relations
Marion Clifford-Taggart | Admissions Registrar
Olivia Helmer | Marketing Assistant
Lauren Rafferty-Spiers | Administrative Assistant
BURSARIES
Bursary requests are considered on a confidential case-by-case basis and are normally limited to tuition fees. Applications are means-tested and reviewed annually and focus on the financial position, as well as other circumstances, of the family. We have finite and limited resources so we want to concentrate support towards those in most need.*
SIBLING POLICY
Most siblings join us at King William’s College and The Buchan School. The rate of the discount is not determined by the order in which children join the school, but by their age; younger siblings will receive a 10% award while there is an older sibling in attendance at either King William’s College or The Buchan School.*
CHILDREN OF CLERGY POLICY
A reduction of one third of the fee for boarders and one half of the fee for day pupils is allowed to children of clergy holding a benefice or Bishop’s licence and residing in the Isle of Man. There is a similar arrangement for children of Methodist Ministers.*
SERVICES POLICY
A reduction of 10% is allowed for serving members of the Armed Forces of the Crown. Unlike other fee remissions, this reduction is also applied to the boarding fee.*
*Discount does not apply at The Buchan Nursery.
YEAR 7 SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS
Held in January each year, our honorary Academic Scholarships and Drama, Music and Sport Awards are available to pupils entering Year 7 (Lower Fourth). They are highly prized and are designed to reward excellence and celebrate exceptional talent in a particular field. Each year, King William’s College attracts high calibre applicants who enrich the School, not only in their specialist areas, but also in all facets of School life.
Throughout their time at College we aim to provide each pupil with encouragement and tailored support to develop their talents and excel in their specialist area. All Scholarships are won in open competition and are awarded solely on merit. Each Scholarship and Award is held from 1st September of the year of entry until the Scholar leaves the College, provided the pupil’s work and conduct continue to be of the highest standard. Our Scholarships and Awards are a great accolade for the scholar to have.
