King William’s College and The Buchan School is delighted to announce the results of its British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspection which was undertaken in November last year, which highlights the School’s excellence in education, pastoral care, and boarding provision. The report, conducted by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), affirms that the School meets all required standards, with numerous areas singled out for exceptional quality.
Key Findings from the Report:
Outstanding Academic Achievement: Students’ results in public examinations demonstrate their dedication and the high quality of teaching. Nearly half of all GCSE and IGCSE grades achieved were A*-A/9-7, with International Baccalaureate (IB) scores surpassing the global average.
Exemplary Personal Development: The quality of pupils’ personal development was judged as excellent. The report highlights how students are equipped with resilience, independence, and a deep sense of social responsibility.
Exceptional Boarding Experience: Boarding facilities were praised for their recent upgrades and strong pastoral care. The Inspectors reported a vibrant international boarding community which enriches the School’s cultural diversity, fostering mutual respect and acceptance.
Comprehensive Safeguarding Measures: The inspection also recognised the School’s robust safeguarding practices, which include comprehensive staff training, meticulous record-keeping, and strong pastoral support.
Holistic Curriculum: A broad and engaging curriculum was commended for its ability to foster academic excellence and personal growth. From junior outdoor learning activities to senior IB lessons, students develop critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.
Cultural Enrichment: The School’s commitment to celebrating diversity through international events, chapel services, and cultural studies ensures students leave with a global perspective and respect for others.
Community Engagement: The School’s emphasis on charity and service was noted as a key strength throughout all age groups. Initiatives such as collecting toys for children in Ukraine and participating in beach cleaning projects highlight pupils’ empathy and dedication to making a difference within their wider community.
