Upper Sixth (Year 13) students at King William’s College are celebrating their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme results, published today, 6th July, just a month and a half after their last exam.
The 35 students achieved a creditable overall average of 31.1 points, with 5 students achieving 40 points or more. 31.1 points is the equivalent of A*A*A at A-level when converting to the UCAS tariff, while 40 points for IB is an acknowledged ‘world class’ score. 14 students got 35 points or more. This represents a competitive offer from a respected UK university like York or King’s.
As usual, the cohort included students who had come all the way through the School from The Buchan, those who had joined us in Lower 4 (Year 7), and students who had arrived for Sixth Form – proof that nationality and first language are not barriers to success in IB!
The UCAS situation is positive, with nearly three-quarters of UK applicants ‘in’ to their firm or insurance choice. Others who were close to their offers will find out more on Monday morning, when University Admissions tutors update the online system, or on the outcome of an enquiry upon results.
As usual, being an international school, several of our U6 students are applying outside the UCAS system, to universities in Europe, the Middle East and Hong Kong. A couple are heading straight into employment or service, and a few have committed to exciting gap year schemes. Last but not least, we were pleased to support successful UCAS re-applications for a handful of students who left in 2023.

With a fruitful end to the academic year for Upper Sixth students, King William’s College hopes to emulate the same success with our (I)GCSE and GCSE results later in the year.
